To be more specific, Toyota actually announced a new variant of the 2012 Tacoma that has been specifically designed to excel off road. The model is known as the 2012 Toyota Tacoma T/X Baja Edition, and it promises to not only step things up a notch, but also to look good doing so!

The 2012 Tacoma T/X Baja Edition features the Toyota Racing Development Off-Road package, which means that it is equipped with an electronically controlled locking rear differential, Active Traction Control, Hill Start, and Downhill Assist Controls. Exterior wise, the Tacoma Baja features a slick gunmetal gray paintjob with Baja Series graphics, which tops off its performance with a look that is equally as daring.

Combine all of that with the fact that this new Tacoma variant sits two inches higher than normal on coil springs and racing shocks on the front and rear suspension, and that it features BF Goodrich T/A KO tires wrapped around off-road wheels.

The Toyota Tacoma T/X Baja Edition was first shown off at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, where Toyota division boss Bob Carter said, "It's the type of truck that will shine in a Texas ranch environment, or on a Midwest hunting trip, off the highway in a California desert, or anywhere, east or west, where the roads are rugged."¹

This hot new Tacoma variant will only be available as an Access Double Cab 4x4, and it's currently set to be limited to a two-month production run in the spring of 2012. T/X Baja Series will be available on the Tacoma Access Double Cab 4-by-4 models equipped with TRD Off-Road Package. The truck will hit a limited two-month production cycle in the spring of 2012.
