Toyota to Re-open Assembly Line and Parts Factory

The financial news journal knows as Bloomberg gave us a encouraging update after the unfortunate events that took place last week in Japan. Toyota Motor Co. will restart their parts production line this week, and open their vehicle assembly line again on March 22nd. This news come only days after the region was devastated by a huge earthquake, followed by a powerful tsunami.

"Toyota will keep 21 plants shut until March 22," Paul Nolasco, a spokesman for the carmaker, told Bloomberg News. "The company may lose 95,000 units of production," added Shiori Hashimoto, a spokeswoman for Toyota.

Toyota to Expand Production at its West Virginia Facility

Japanese automaker Toyota is planning to invest a lofty sum of $64 million in its facility in West Virginia. The goal: to expand production of six-speed automatic transmissions. Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia currently builds six-speed transmissions for many of Toyota's V6-engine models, including the Toyota Avalon, the Toyota Camry, the Toyota Sienna, the Toyota Venza, and even the Lexus RS350.

How does this translate to units produced? It will bring Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia's annual transmission capacity to just under 400,000.
