At Capital Toyota, we love bringing you news about new Toyota models, like the FJ Cruiser and Tundra. But, occasionally we have to bring you updates directly from the automaker about pressing matters that are more important. This is the case with their latest announcement: a voluntary recall of 2001-2003 model-year Prius vehicles.
The recall, which was announced in early June, affects a total of 52,000 Prius models here in the United States. Worldwide, that number jumps to around 100,000 models. Toyota's reason behind issuing the recall is a potential problem that results in the electric power steering shaft and attachment nuts needing to be replaced.
In order to see if their Prius needs to be fixed, Toyota is advising drivers of 2001-2003 Prius models to pay very close attention to their steering wheel and its performance. If the wheel continually turns to its full-lock position, it may need to be fixed. This happens because the nuts that secure the pinion shaft in the steering gear assembly box have loosened. The problem that results because of this is that drivers being having to exert more effort when making left hand turns.
To help alleviate this issue with drivers, Toyota is advising that they take their vehicle to dealerships across the country, like Capital Toyota - 5808 Lee Hwy Chattanooga, TN 37421, to get the vehicle fixed. Of course, there is no charge for this fix, since Toyota is issuing the recall. And, remember to keep a very close eye on the steering wheel's performance, and if you do experience trouble making left hand turns, contact our service department at (800) 476-0661.
At Capital Toyota, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience that this may be causing. But, we also want to assure you that we are dedicated to keeping you informed and taken care of for your automotive needs. If you are the owner of a 2001-2003 Toyota Prius, expect to see a notification in the mail in mid July. And, remember to stay tuned for more Toyota news!
